Online course preparing candidates for the Master Mariner examination (ships of ≥ 3,000 GT).
Condition for admission to the course

Under § 32 of the Act, to sit the Master Mariner examination for ships of 3,000 GT and above, the candidate must hold a Chief Mate certificate for such ships and documented sea service (12 months, or 6 months if additional conditions are met). Only candidates who document 100% of the required service period may sit the examination.
Professional entitlements

The holder of a Master Mariner certificate is entitled to serve as: a) officer of the watch – on any ship, b) chief mate – on any ship, c) master – on any ship.
Examination requirements

The examination consists of a theoretical part (multiple-choice test) and a practical part (simulator/ship). Details:
  • Navigation – 15 questions, 45 min (test), no practical part.
  • Navigational equipment – 15 questions, 45 min (test).
  • Safety of navigation – 15 questions, 45 min (test).
  • Ship management – 15 questions, 60 min (test), 1 practical task, 20 min.
  • Ship safety – 15 questions, 45 min (test).
  • Maritime law – 30 questions, 90 min (test).
The oral examination covers English terminology in ship management and safety, and manoeuvring in difficult conditions. The written examination requires the completion of selected ship operational documents in English.
Course format

The course is delivered online and lasts 21 days.
Legal basis

§ 32 and § 33 of the Maritime Navigation Act; Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure and Development of 8 September 2014 on qualification examinations.

Training goal

The aim of the course is to prepare participants to pass the Master Mariner examination and obtain the entitlement to serve as officer of the watch, chief mate and master on ships of 3,000 GT and above.

Requirements

Warunek przystąpienia do kursu

Zgodnie z § 32 ustawy, aby przystąpić do egzaminu, należy posiadać dyplom starszego oficera na statkach o pojemności brutto ≥ 3000 t oraz udokumentowaną praktykę pływania (12 miesięcy lub 6 miesięcy przy spełnieniu dodatkowych warunków). Do egzaminu może przystąpić wyłącznie osoba, która udokumentuje 100 % wymaganego okresu praktyki.
