Work at sea is more than a profession — it is a way of life that exposes a person to unique psychological challenges. That is why the new course "Solitude on Board" was created, to help understand and better cope with isolation, stress and relationships in a closed environment.

Work at sea is more than a profession — it is a way of life that exposes a person to unique psychological challenges. That is why the new course "Solitude on Board" was created, to help understand and better cope with isolation, stress and relationships in a closed environment.
Life on board differs significantly from life ashore. The course discusses in detail: long voyages and their impact on the mind, being overloaded with duties and the lack of a work-rest balance, limited recreational facilities, and the absence of an established culture of recovery and wellbeing. This is the foundation for understanding why solitude at sea works differently than ashore.
Not everyone reacts to isolation in the same way. On the course you will learn: the differences between introversion, ambiversion and extraversion, the influence of temperament (melancholic, phlegmatic, choleric, sanguine) on coping with solitude, and traits that may lead to alienation or withdrawal within the crew. This is practical knowledge that helps you understand yourself and other crew members better.
One of the hardest aspects of work at sea is being cut off from family. The course covers: psychological mechanisms such as intrusive thinking and imagining threats (heuristics), longing for loved ones and life ashore, and the risk of depression, stress and lack of social support. You will learn how to recognise these phenomena and how to counter them.

Why is it worth it?
This course is not theory — it offers real tools for people who live and work in demanding conditions. It helps build mental resilience, improve relationships within the crew and take care of one's own emotional health.
